1965 Ford GT40 P/1000-W For Sale

Our friends at Ernesto's Garage are offering you the rare opportunity to acquire this 1965 Ford GT40 P/1000-W

The story of the GT40 P/1000-W is a two-parter, comprising the tragic tale of the P/1000 chassis built by Ford Advanced Vehicles in 1965, followed by the involvement in the early 1980s of Bryan Wingfield and Willment Automotive in the rebirth of the P/1000 with a fully authentic rebuild, officially designated by the World Ford GT40 Register as the P/1000-W chassis.

On March 26, 1966, P/1000 was entered by Comstock Racing in the Sebring 12 Hours endurance race. During the race, Canadian driver Bob Mclean was fatally injured and the car was destroyed by fire.

The GT40 P/1000 was ‘resurrected’ when it was recreated by renowned GT40 specialist Bryan Wingfield for Richard Eyre, using a new original monocoque. During the build, Wingfield had access to a wealth of original Willment family GT40 parts, accumulated throughout the 1960s when Willment Automotive enjoyed great racing success as a successful Ford team. Completed in 1984, the chassis was renumbered GT40 P/1000-W to clearly reference Bryan Wingfield’s involvement in building a fully authentic recreation, with many original factory parts.

In 2015, the P/1000-W was completely rebuilt by Paul Lanzante Ltd, with regular technical input from Bryan Wingfield. The rebuild included a complete refurbishment of all major components to impeccable levels of readiness for track use.

In early 2016, the GT40 P/1000-W, now fully compliant with FIA GTP racing specifications, underwent a full FIA inspection with subsequent issuance and validation of the FIA Historic Technical Passport until 2026.
