Following the stinging failure of the Peugeot engine in 2000 with Prost, Asiatech took over the entire engine department of the French manufacturer, who had decided to leave Formula 1. Starting with the A20 as a working basis (which suffered from cylinder head and block), the new Japanese tuner built the Asiatech 001 which propelled the Arrows A22 in 2001.
