F1 Race-Used Part for Sale Item: Front Carbon-Fiber Track Rods Set
The front carbon track rods on the Sauber C18 were a key part of the car’s steering system during the 1999 Formula 1 season. Made from high-modulus carbon fiber composites, these components connected the steering rack to the front uprights, transmitting steering inputs with minimal compliance. By reducing unsprung mass and increasing both torsional and bending stiffness, Sauber improved steering precision and maintained consistent toe geometry under high lateral and longitudinal loads. This resulted in more predictable front-end behavior during turn-in and braking phases.
Historically, Sauber was among the midfield teams adopting carbon fiber steering elements at the end of the 1990s, following the lead of frontrunners like Ferrari and McLaren. The move marked a step toward fully optimized suspension assemblies, where every gram saved and every increase in rigidity contributed to improved mechanical grip and overall chassis performance.
